Abstract: Historically, women were almost absent from the international arbitration community, despite the fact that thanks to their particular mindsets, women could bring complementarity and added value in law firms and arbitration panels. Given that they now count as the majority gender in law schools, as trainees in law firms and also as in-house counsel, progress as to the number and role of women in international arbitration should be achieved. It is however of paramount importance that responsibility be taken by all arbitration stakeholders to quicken and improve this natural evolution. A number of recent initiatives go in that direction.
